Growing in waters up to 6 feet deep, this perennial submerged species can develop dense coverage on the water’s surface. Having a stringy appearance, the rooted plant’s stems are only .1 – .25 mm wide. In the sedge family, Spikerush appears bright green. If submerged it appears as a short grass or tangly mass. Leaf blades are non-existent, and it has minimal tiny flowers.
