Pistia stratiotes

Non-native – Invasive – Eradicate

Resembling a head of lettuce, this dull green free floating plant has the potential to form large dense colonies covering waterways and becoming extremely problematic. In such cases, it prevents sunlight from reaching submerged plants causing a reduction in oxygen. It can also disrupt recreational activities. Identifying characteristics include thick, 6 inch long leaves with large veins. Water Lettuce has a rosette appearance and produces a small flower which is typically concealed.
