Wolffia Arrhiza

The light green, free-floating, tiny (< 1mm) aquatic plant is rootless and often confused as being algae. Commonly present on undisturbed, calm waters, Watermeal has the potential to cover the entire water’s surface. Waterfowl has been known to use Watermeal as a food source while many fish and amphibians use its blanket as cover. Coloration is a lime green or shiny deep green, and it is no bigger than a poppy seed. Watermeal is round in shape and feels like tiny balls to the touch. This floating plant should be controlled and managed accordingly to prevent complete coverage.
