ElodeaCanadensis

Elodea is a submerged perennial species rooted but can also grow detached and floating. Dark green in appearance, Elodea is often confused with Hydrilla and Egeria. Hints to identification include several unique characteristics. Elodea ranges in length and can be found anywhere from 4 inches to 3 feet long. The entire weed is submerged with the exception of a white colored flower blooming in summer. The multi-branched plant has oval leaves with 3 or 4 per whorl. A key characteristic to Elodea is its leaves smooth edge, versus Hydrilla which has a rough toothed edge. Elodea is very beneficial providing a habitat for native species and producing considerable oxygen.
