Non-Native – Invasive – Eradicate
Considered one of the most invasive non-native species in the U.S., this species should be eradicated. Its aggressive and competitive behavior create dense colonies and considerable problems including water quality deterioration, algae blooms and interfering with recreational uses. It has feather-like green leaves typically seen in whorls of 4, however, varying between 3 to 5. Each leaf consists of 12 to 21 pairs of leaflets. Its stem is generally weak in nature but can grow up to 7 feet long. The stem’s branch with age creating the characteristic mat-like appearance. Reddish flowers bloom late season and appear above water.
