Providing an excellent habitat for wildlife and coverage for many fish species, Fragrant Water Lily has significant benefits. Care should be taken as it does have the ability to completely cover small ponds, which could eliminate submerged aquatic species, as well as lead to fish kills. The seeds provide an excellent food source for ducks while other wildlife such as beavers, muskrats and deer consume the rhizomes and leaves. Easily identified by its “lily pad” shape, it has a green round leaf with a “V” cut-out slit. Leaf size varies between 6 to 12 inches. White flowers with a yellow center float or rise slightly above the water opening in the morning and closing in the afternoon.
