Panicum hemitomon

Maidencane is a perennial grass forming dense colonies and growing up to 8 feet in height. Slender leaves are seen up to 1 inch wide and 12 inches long. It does have the ability to spread quickly via its rhizomes. Flowers are produced on a 12 inch long spike. Maidencane provides an excellent habitat for many species and is also an excellent food source. It is only found in freshwater with the ability to grow in wet soils or shallow waters.
