Blooming throughout spring and summer, Spatterdock is a large aquatic plant native to Florida. Though the leaves can be submerged, they are often emersed and seen floating on the water surface. Very thin, heart-shaped green leaves can grow between 8 to 16 inches in length and 10 inches wide. The yellow flower is either floating or rising slightly out of the water. The flowers are spiracle in shape and have green sepals. Spatterdock fruits are ovate with a yellowish green coloration. This plant typically grows in calm waters and reproduces via rhizomes or seeds. Spatterdock offers excellent cover and habitat for many fish species.
