Native to Florida, Jointed Spikerush is one of the largest Eleocharis species growing up to 48 inches tall. Dark green stems with light brown spike tips are a key identifying characteristic of this sedge. The stems are round, firm and erect. Reproducing from rhizomes, Spikerush can grow in moist soil or shallow water. Like with all aquatic plants, the submerged portions play an important ecological role by offering a habitat for many invertebrates. Spikerush also makes an ideal nesting ground for waterfowl and other birds.
