Arrowhead, Duck Potato

This perennial plant gets its name from its arrowhead-shaped leaves. Often found in shallow waters the plant can grow between 1 to 4 feet tall. Its ability to prevent shore erosion while providing an excellent food source for wildlife makes Arrowhead an aquatic plant with environmental importance. It reproduces via seeds and rhizomes and typically grows in clusters. Its petioles are long and somewhat spongy with a distinguishing feature of having a milky fluid present when crushed. White or light pink flowers grow on independent stalks appearing in whorls of 3, and each having 3 petals.
