Songe Réunion

This non-native emergent species is found in swamps, lake shorelines and streams. Easily identified for its distinguishing large size, Elephant Ear can grow as high as 9 feet, with leaves reaching 6 feet in length. The leaves attach directly to the petiole base in this aquatic perennial. The leaves are arrow-shaped and light green in color. Originally native to Central and South America, Elephant Ear tubers provide an excellent food source for the general population and is still harvested and consumed today.
